At Jumprope we believe that anyone should easily be able to create professional-looking videos without expensive filming equipment. Today we’re breaking down one of our all-time favorite filming hacks that you can try at home.
If you’re a food, craft, DIY, or other creator who likes to do overhead shots, this is the hack for you. This makeshift tripod setup costs $0 and you can easily recreate it using materials you already have at home.

Step 1: This hack is great for filming overhead videos. Set up your workspace the way you normally would.
Step 2: Position a stool or even a small side table next to your workspace.
Step 3: Add two books on top of the stool. The first book will hang off of the edge and over your workspace and the second book will stack on top to balance it.
Step 4: Position your phone so the camera hangs over the edge. Be careful, it doesn’t need to hang too far!
Step 5: Now you’re ready to film your stead, overhead video, no tripod required!
